About the role:

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) formerly the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) receives DBS applications on behalf of the bodies / organisations registered with the DBS. The primary aim of DBS is help employers make safer recruitment choices and prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups, including children through its criminal record checking and barring functions.

The role of Business Support Assistant requires a highly motivated person who is methodical, has high levels of accuracy and who is able to interrogate complex computer systems and databases to check for any information relevant to these applications and also provide general business admin functions such as managing the department mailbox, saving excel documents and allocating work.

You will be required to interrogate computer systems, demonstrate computer literacy and the flexibility to learn new packages, while showing attention to detail. You will need to make accurate choices based on findings. The ability to demonstrate high integrity and confidentiality is also essential. You will be able to demonstrate good communications skills, be able to prioritise work and work as part of a team or on your own. You must be able to work to relevant legislation. You must be able to work in target focused environment and have the ability to meet daily targets.

West Midlands Police are currently undertaking a long term review of staff pay and conditions.  The grade, pay and other terms of employment are therefore subject to review and may change in the future.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

Candidates will be shortlisted on the following essential criteria

  • Computer literate / flexibility to learn new packages
  • Ability to make accurate choices
  • Demonstrate high integrity and confidentiality
  • Good Communication skills – Written and Verbal
  • Ability to interpret relevant legislation
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet targets

Candidates may be asked to attend a 30 minute DBS Test on the 26TH, 27TH and 29TH March 2019 and interviews scheduled for the week beginning 8TH April 2019 at Lloyd House as part of the selection process.

It should be noted that priority will be given to those colleagues who are currently on the Alternative Employment Register.
