Operations Manager – Community Services

Flexible location (Shropshire/Birmingham) with regular presence in Birmingham, Salary £35k (37 hours a week)

Autism West Midlands is the leading charity in the West Midlands for people with autism. We deliver family and adult support and have been doing so for over 30 years.

We provide a number of Community Support Services and as part of this role; you will be required to oversee the following services:

  • The Helpline:  We offer helpline support to anyone that calls us and provide a comprehensive range of resources for adults and families. Our helpline which operates five days a week receives thousands of calls and emails a year.
  • Aspire: We  provide autistic adults support to find and maintain employment, to grow in confidence and develop new skills.    We are a unique organisation proud of what we do and our history and would like someone to join us to help drive these services forward and help us support more people.
  • Family Services:  We are often the very first port of call for a family whose son or daughter has received a diagnosis of Autism and offer early critical support and intervention for the whole family.  We offer numerous advice and guidance sessions to families as well as provide training to professionals. We run a range of groups and play sessions for young children and their siblings.

We deliver this support across many parts of the West Midlands including Shropshire, Birmingham, Solihull, Walsall and Sandwell. You will oversee these services, each lead by a Manager. These services are very well used and much needed by families and respected by commissioners and we wish to build on their strengths. Your role will be to lead and oversee the service delivery, negotiate contracts and gain additional funding and new opportunities to ensure they are able to respond to the needs of families and adults with autism, and meet the changing priorities of commissioners and funders. You will actively support managers in their role, devise plans for taking services forward and will be a member of the charity’s Leadership Group, helping to shape policy and future direction.

You will be an excellent people manager, leading an experienced team to deliver positive outcomes to budget. You will also be a good negotiator and networker able to identify new opportunities in a challenging financial climate, and find new approaches to meet the needs of the families and people that we support.  You will be highly organised and understand contractual, financial and reporting requirements, experienced in funding applications  and project proposals  and how to get the best out of a changing external environment.

At Autism West Midlands we offer a competitive benefits package including:
