About the role

As a Compliance and Audit Officer you will have the opportunity to ensure WMP is compliant with the National Crime Recording Standard (NCRS) and Home Office Counting Rules (HOCR). The role sits in a high profile team reporting directly to the Deputy Force Crime Registrar, who in turn reports the Force Crime Registrar.

You will have the important task of carrying out in depth research of information systems, devising audit methodologies and carrying out validation audits. You will also have the opportunity to support the creation and delivery of training packages to WMP in this interesting and varied role. In addition, the Compliance and Audit Officer will:

  • Give crime recording advice over the telephone and in person.
  • Have the confidence to challenge all ranks of Police Officers and Staff, where appropriate.
  • Be able to deliver effective presentations to all levels of colleagues.
  • Collate data into a written report, detailing rationale for crime recording decisions.
  • Evidence a good understanding of auditing principles.
  • Utilise Excel effectively.
  • Communicate effectively with the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively. 

About you

 

You will be an exceptional team player, working well on your own initiative. You will be adept at keeping yourself up to date with any changes to legislation, case law and HOCR.

You will thrive in a fast paced and at times challenging and busy environment. You will be used to working with a degree of flexibility during internal audits or inspections. 

 

You will also:

  • Have an awareness of the National Crime Recording Standards (NCRS)
  • Have an awareness of the Home Office Counting Rules (HOCR)
  • Computer experience and the confidence to work with different systems
  • Previous Audit experience

Due to the nature of the role the post holder will be required to undertake an appropriately stringent vetting procedure.
