Southall is a thriving and improving 11-16 community special school located in the Telford area of Shropshire. This larger than average special school is well established in the local community. The school provides education for 160 students with moderate and complex learning difficulties, a growing proportion of the pupils have autistic spectrum conditions.
An opportunity has arisen for a HLTA within Southall School. This is a very specific post where you will be mainly required to work with one pupil who has significant communication, physical and medical needs, but who maintains a high standard of cognitive ability.
The successful person will be required to work closely with school, home and other agencies to ensure that the pupil has full access to the curriculum. You will need to have the ability to adapt aspects of the planning and resources, assess accessibility and cognitive ability accurately along with teachers and other professionals and be able to deliver precision teaching.
Due to the nature of the pupil’s needs, you may be required to deliver education at home. If the pupil is not attending school, then you will be required to take on the role of Cover Supervisor.
This is a truly exciting role for someone who is passionate about ensuring that pupils, whatever their barriers to learning, achieve the best possible outcomes.
Our ideal candidate will:
- be confident and competent in guiding and leading young people
- have previous experience in working with children with special needs
- have an understanding of Child Protection policies
- have patience and empathy towards pupils
- have a good command of both written and spoken English
Closing date for applications is 9.00 a.m. on Monday, 25th March, 2019. Applications should be returned to tracey.roberts@southallschool.com.
