Electoral Assistant

An opportunity has arisen to join the Electoral Registration team. The postholder will be required to provide typing and administration support services to the Electoral Registration office.

The ability to demonstrate use of the Microsoft suite to include Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook and to communicate effectively in writing and verbally are essential to this post. The postholder will need to support the planning and organisation of all types of elections and referenda as well as deal with enquiries and applications for registration.

The successful candidate should be able to work with minimal supervision, effectively prioritise workloads and be proficient in typing and have good communication skills in order to deal with members of the public both by phone and face-to-face to deal with enquiries. It would be beneficial to have a candidate who has experience of working in an electoral registration office and/or a candidate who would be willing to undertake the foundation course in Electoral Administration.

Legislation imposes restrictions on political activity for certain local government employees. This position is designated as a politically restricted (sensitive) post as set out in Part 1 the Local Government & Housing Act 1989 and the Local Government (Political Restrictions) Regulations 1990 (LGO(PR)R 1990) [SI 851] and S.30 of the Local Democracy Economic Development and Construction Act 2009.

For this role the successful candidates must undergo a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check.  BPSS is the minimum standard to ensure the identity and integrity of an employee who has access to official information using secure networks linking central government and local authorities.  A BPSS check involves four main elements; Identity Check, National and Immigration Status, Employment History (last 3 years) and Verification of Criminal Record (unspent convictions only).

Completion of a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check is a requirement for this post.
