Based in Coventry, we specialise in providing excellent education and support to learners with diverse and complex needs, including Autism. Our staff are committed to enabling learners to reach their potential and fulfil their ambitions.

We have an exciting opportunity for support assistants to join our team. The successful candidates will have a broad knowledge base of working with learners with challenging behaviours and experience of developing and supporting learners with special educational needs and disabilities.

In your role as a member of the ILS learning support staff team you will be responsible for supporting students in the Pathway in an educational environment under the guidance of the teaching staff.  You will be responsible for monitoring and assessing and recording students’ progress through effective target setting and ensuring that students are able to access the curriculum effectively. You will also be responsible for delivering all aspects of personal care to individual students.

If you are placed in the College’s ‘Aspire’ group, a small discrete provision catering for learners with complex emotional and behavioural needs.  You will ensure that the learners are effectively supported to reduce risk.  You will support the Inclusion Manager to implement and deliver a range of effective programmes that strive to provide the best learning experience for all.  You will be responsible for supporting a learner on a 1-1 basis, ensuring they are monitored and assisted in their learning.  You will have the ability to quickly establish positive relationships with learners and staff and be flexible to meet the needs of a diverse group.  A background in SEND and/or experience of working with challenging behaviour would be advantageous.

To apply, you should have a Level 2 in Care or willingness to achieve this within three months, experience within the specialist sector and/or Further Education and experience of supporting individual learners across a wide range of levels and with a range of learning, physical and sensory needs, including Autism.  It is essential that you have GCSEs or equivalent at Grade C or above in Maths and English. If you do not hold GCSEs or equivalent at Grade C or above in Maths and English, you will be required to undergo an assessment to determine you are operating at the required level.

You’ll need to be a team worker, with excellent communication, organisational and planning skills. You should have computer skills with the ability to use technology to enrich the learner’s experience. It is important to have a positive, proactive, flexible approach to work with a strong commitment to excellence and student success.

To apply completed application forms and diversity monitoring forms should be downloaded from our website. Then returned to vacancies@hereward.ac.uk

Application forms will be shortlisted once they are submitted. The College reserves the right to close this vacancy when sufficient applications have been received.
