The Role

To clean specified areas within the school in accordance with the school’s/authority’s standards. 
• Work is undertaken under the guidance of the Site Services Officer

Particular Responsibilities

All cleaning should be carried out in-line with the ‘School Cleaning Guide’ and this should be referred to together with this job description. However cleaning will generally include the following: 
• Clean toilets, bowls, sinks and basins 
• Wipe down desks and chairs 
• Vacuum and tidy classrooms 
• Wash worktops/tables 
• Wash/mop/sweep floors and wash wet areas 
• Clean inside glazing 
• Dust and polish 
• Empty bins and dispose of rubbish 
• Ensure safe and effective use and storage of all equipment 
• Be aware of Health and Safety at Work regulations and COSHH guidelines 
• Keep the COSHH cupboard locked when not in use. 
• Draw to caretaker’s attention any problems / issues which may affect the safety, hygiene and security of the school or its users. 
• Assist in providing for the general care and safety of pupils and for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school; 
• Operate with ‘Unconditional Positive Regard’, treating pupils and staff with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect, and at all times observing proper boundaries appropriate to a Site Service Officer’s professional position; 
• To promote equal opportunities with the school and to seek to assist in the implementation of the school’s equal opportunities policy where applicable to the role. 
• To read, understand and adhere to the DfE guidance on ‘Keeping children Safe’. 
• To show awareness of the importance of security and to ensure that visitors are authorised or directed to the school office. 
• To have due regard for their own safety as well as others and comply with manual handling, ladder safety, working at height, lone working and other appropriate safety guidance provided. 
• To participate in job related training as required. 
• Understanding of the need to maintain confidentiality on all school matters




Key Requirements

• Have good written communication skills e.g. to read, write and maintain records. 
• Have good verbal communication skills e.g. to be able to communicate effectively with individuals and groups of people.

• Knowledge of Health and Safety Issues (General and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) 
• Knowledge of matters relating to safe manual handling. 
• Be able to undertake all aspects of the physical role of cleaning. 
• Follow the schools’ values, including honesty and integrity. 
• Be reliable and trustworthy. 
• Be a good timekeeper and have the ability to work efficiently. 
• Take a developmental approach to working with all others, being able to work under the direct of others and on own initiative where required. 
• Ability to work on own initiative and deal with unexpected situations. 
• Have high expectations and operate to ensure that a quality service and cleanliness is provided consistently to school, 
• Have good organisational skills and able to organise self and others.
