Fire Safety Officer

Salary:  £30,756 - £35,229 per annum (pro rata)

37 Hours per week – Fixed Term 2 years

Staffordshire County Council has a wide range of accommodation with different activities taking place across its property portfolio for which effective fire safety standards are an important part of its health and safety management arrangements. 

Reporting to the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager, you will work on a day-to-day basis across the business in conjunction with Business Units implementing the Council’s Fire Safety Strategy, completing Fire Risk Assessments and promoting fire safety standards.

This role will be responsible for the completion/oversee the completion of the Fire Risk Assessments across the council’s corporate premises portfolio, supporting Premise Managers and FM professionals with advice and guidance on fire safety matters.
 

Assisting the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager to oversee and govern fire safety standards.  Working with property colleagues to ensure that premise surveys and maintenance plans take account of the council’s fire safety strategy and standards.  Also supporting Property Services to set fire safety standards for any new builds/major refurbishments and ensure compliance with relevant health and safety and fire safety legislation, codes of practice and general guidance, where reasonably practicable.

You will have at least 3 years fire safety experienced in relevant field and have practical experienced at completion of Fire Risk assessments ideally to PAS 79 standards across range of properties including residential, and public access buildings.   Hold relevant professional qualification e.g. NEBOSH General Certificate and Fire Risk Assessment Certificate or qualification such as NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management/IFSM Fire Manager Training, or relevant training course such as a fire training course approved by the IFE under their register of auditors and Fire Risk Assessors scheme or a similar accredited scheme. Have completion of a recognised qualification in advanced Fire Safety Risk Assessment. Hold membership of relevant fire association and participate in regular continues professional development.

Role requires ability to travel to different premises across Staffordshire and occasionally outside Staffordshire.  Casual Car User allowances will apply to the role.
