37 Hours per week – Fixed Term until 31st March 2021

The Virtual School ensures Staffordshire’s Looked After Children and Care leavers achieve their full potential.  The service works in partnership with children, families and other professionals to promote resilience and improved educational outcomes for looked after and previously looked after children so that they can fulfil their full potential when transitioning into adulthood. 

We would particularly welcome applications from candidates with recent experience in an education setting supporting children with special educational needs.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Substantial experience of working with children in a range of settings particularly associated with education.
  • Knowledge of the educational experiences of children in care.
  • Demonstrate experience of working with both teaching and social care professionals.
  • Ability to work successful with a range of partners from differing professional backgrounds. 
  • Line management and supervision of an Education Learning Mentor.
  • Competency in the use of ICT.
  • Ability to deal with conflict and provide constructive resolution. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Oversee the development and implementation of effective transition strategies and plans for Looked After Children identified through case review processes.  
  • Work with key partners including designated teachers, social workers and carers to raise aspiration and expectation for educational achievement of Looked After Children.
  • Work with colleagues to ensure stability is maintained with regards to educational placements, ensuring that educational placements are secured in co-ordination with care placements.
  • Liaise with other agencies and partnerships where required to ensure effective co-ordination of support services, where they relate to the education of Looked After Children.
