Teacher of Key Stage 3 Computing with the ability to teach KS3 Science
(Maternity Cover) Required June 2019

We wish to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated teacher to work in our Computing Department. Delivering Key Stage 3 Computing to Years 7, 8 and 9, you will be joining a well-established subject team who both support and learn from each other. The ability to teach some KS3 Science would also be an advantage. This post is to cover maternity leave commencing June 2019.

Idsall School is a heavily oversubscribed 11-18 rural school, which provides our community with good to outstanding development, learning and progress in a positive, pleasant learning environment. Idsall was described by OFSTED (June 2017) as a good and improving school where students achieve well and leave the school with results that are above the national average. All judgements were good.

The Computing department is a committed, close-knit team who work well together to enable students of all abilities to fulfil their potential. Computer Science and ICT are offered to examination level in KS4 and KS5. Key Stage 3 schemes of work cover topics that help prepare pupils for both subjects. Topics include Scratch programming, Python programming, HTML and CSS, Binary Arithmetic, Web development with DreamWeaver, databases, spreadsheets, word-processing and desktop publishing.

The science team are very supportive and have helped to nurture several trainee teachers of the last few years. The successful candidate will receive the full support of the Head of Science and his team to deliver approximately six lessons per week of KS3 science. Topics will be tailored to match the strengths and knowledge of the successful candidate.

In 2018, our GCSE Computer Science average points score was 5.48, with 87.88% of pupils achieving a grade 4 or above, and 72.73% achieving a grade 5 or above. For Key Stage 4 ICT, the average points score was 4.41, with 77.59% achieving a grade 4 or above, and 41.38% achieving a grade 5 or above.

Uptake to KS5 courses in Computer Science and ICT is pleasing, as are recent results.

Our well-behaved students respond positively to our hard-working and highly committed staff. You will be joining the school at an exciting stage of its development.
