Salary range is G9 £31,914 - £36,740 (pay award pending)
The post is offered on a full time, 37 hours per week, basis

This is an exciting time for Walsall Council. We adopted our Site Allocations Document along with the Area Action Plan for the town centre at the beginning of the year and we are now looking to expand on this work with a Town Centre Master Plan. This is taking forward new investment into Walsall and delivering a number of major development projects. In addition to securing new investment, the Council is also looking at new ways of working through our Proud programme which has led to new ICT provision and working arrangements to ensure the services the people and businesses of Walsall need are delivered as efficiently as possible by our busy and high performing team.

Ideally, you should have a degree, or equivalent, in Planning and have prior relevant experience in the field of planning. As this is a senior role, experience of leading a development project or a team would be an advantage.

You will have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with the public, colleagues and members, and work effectively with stakeholders. Good written and interpersonal communication skills are essential and this post is covered by the Government’s Code of Practice on the English Language Fluency Duty.

You will be able to work effectively under pressure, observe deadlines and work both independently and as part of a team.

Duties will require you to:

  • Provide pre-application advice
  • Prepare detailed delegated and committee reports on applications
  • Deal with S215 notices
  • Prepare the Council’s case at appeals

You will also need to be able to have the following:

  • Experience of dealing with planning applications and enforcement work
  • Experience managing your own workload in a timely manner
  • Flexible approach to work with the ability to work on own initiative to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent customer service skills both verbal and written
  • Excellent IT skills especially the use of MS Office
  • A full driving licence and access to a vehicle for work.

For further information and details on how to apply please call, please call Shawn Fleet (Group Manager: Planning) on 013922 650453

Closing date for applications: Monday 20th May 2019

Interview date: Expected to be week commencing 3rd June 2019.
