Job Details

East Staffordshire Borough Council's Horticultural Centre based at Stapenhill Cemetery and its Uttoxeter counterpart the "GO Garden" project (based at Uttoxeter Leisure Centre) provide opportunities for local residents to experience gardening and grow plants for floral displays across the borough. Both locations also provide opportunities for work placements and horticultural therapy.

The Project Co-ordinator post supports the delivery of community gardening projects and works alongside volunteers and those on work placements to grow and produce plants at both the Horticulture Centre and GO Garden project. These plants are then used across the borough in floral displays throughout both towns and other locations.

The role requires the post holder to have experience of gardening and have a good level of horticultural skills. Additionally, the successful candidate should be able to demonstrate coaching and teaching skills when working with volunteers or people on work placements. Flexibility and ability to commute between Burton and Uttoxeter is essential to support project delivery at both locations.

Gardening and/or formal horticultural skills are essential and a form of coaching/teaching skills or experience would be useful for the support of volunteers/work placements. Excellent communication skills are also paramount to ensure gardening concepts are understood by volunteers/work placements as well as sound listening skills in order to respond to the needs of project participants.

The post holder will need to possess a calm manner when dealing with learners and volunteers and be able to explain ideas/procedures in a simple and straightforward manner. An ability to drive and commute between both venues is essential to the post.

Hours of work are: Monday to Friday 10.00am - 2.00pm, with a requirement to support the weekend watering regime during the growing season.

Closing date for applications is Sunday 12th May
Interviews will be held on Friday 24th May

East Staffordshire Borough Council has a commitment to the Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of Children and Vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service Check.
