We have an exciting opportunity for Rail Scheme Sponsors in our West Midlands Rail Programme (WMRP) Team and are looking for professional, pragmatic, energetic, agile and flexible people.  The successful candidates will provide effective leadership to enable the proactive, timely delivery of one of the WMRP projects.

About Us

The West Midlands Rail Executive (WMRE) is delivering local leadership for local rail services, working with the rail industry to deliver a transformation in rail services across the region.

This is an exciting time for the West Midlands – the Commonwealth Games will be her in 2022, the arrival of HS2 will help make us a world class business location and the WMRP will deliver £150m of rail investment by 2021.

The WMRP Team is responsible for supporting the WMRE and TFWM’s Leadership teams in achieving their key objectives for the region.  As an active member of the team, you will provide excellent standards of leadership and customer service to stakeholders, funding partners and staff.

About the Role

As Project Sponsor for one of the WMRP schemes you will be responsible for making sure that projects are effectively coordinated, resourced, delivered to cost, time and quality.  Stakeholder engagement will form a significant part of your role and you will be confident consulting and negotiating with stakeholders, partners and the public to resolve challenges affecting the development and delivery of the scheme whilst ensuring the project benefits are realised.  These are key roles  reporting to the WMRE Executive Director. 

To succeed in the role

There are three roles available with opportunities to sponsor rail projects in the West Midlands.  In all cases you will be a proven manager with experience in the rail sector.  You will be an excellent communicator, effective at interacting with senior managers, directors and external stakeholders and partners.  Our relationships with our partners will be central to our success and you will be able to constructively challenge partners whilst maintaining open and collaborative relationships.  You will have the tact and diplomacy needed to deal with difficult or sensitive situations.

You will be a confident communicator with an ability to write and present reports to WMCA leadership, politicians and stakeholders.

You will need to be a team player with strong leadership skills, able to working in a matrix management structure, with the ability to forward plan and think through implications; most importantly you be used to working under pressure and to tight deadlines.
