Student Environmental Health Practitioner (Housing)- Ref RT61619

This is a Fixed Term placement for 12 months  

This post qualifies for the Living Wage. The Council is committed to paying the Living Wage which is currently £8.75 per hour (pay award pending) and the role includes up to 24days holiday with additional concessionary / bank holiday days.

Walsall Council is seeking two enthusiastic and talented students to work in a friendly Housing team. The post holders will have the opportunity to undertake a wide range of learning and practical experience to assist in them meeting the housing element of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health's Portfolio of Professional Practice (PPP).

This post is only open to those individuals currently in / completed their second year of a BSc (Hons) Environmental Health degree or MSc course accredited with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).

The work will be varied and involve helping residents to improve their lives through helping them tackle issues including (but not limited to);

  • Damp mould and condensation;
  • Dwelling disrepair;
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning;
  • Learning about home energy efficiency.

This post is covered by the Government’s Code of Practice on the English Language Fluency Duty for public sector workers.  The post holder will be required to communicate verbally with customers and provide advice and/or information in accurate spoken English.
