An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone who is passionate about a career route into Building Control as an Administrative Apprentice. Not only will the successful applicant have the opportunity to study towards a nationally recognised qualification, they will support the role of the Building Control Surveyors to gain first hand experience of the various elements of the construction process.

In general terms, the building control service ensures that buildings are constructed properly and in accordance with current standards & regulations. This is done by checking the information provided on the application plans and then inspecting the construction work as it progresses on site.

Principally the building regulations:

• Safeguard the health and safety of people in and around buildings;

• Conserve energy;

• Provide access and facilities for people with disabilities.

The administrative function provides the essential back office support to achieve these targets.

Working in a busy building control team, the role supports the work of the Building Control Surveyors by assisting with the necessary administrative functions to help deliver a first rate service to our customers.

We are looking for a candidate who can assist in the provision of a high quality, customer focussed Building Control Service. You must be able to produce accurate quality controlled work, have excellent literacy skills and the ability to communicate in a concise and professional manner.

You must also be able to maintain good working relationships with members of staff from all levels of the organisation. You should have a minimum of 5 GCSE passes including English and Mathematics or equivalent.

You should be committed to learning and have a desire to study to achieve an NVQ level 2 in Business Administration with the possibility of achieving further qualifications in building control.

The ability to create and use word processing documents and e-mail will form an important part of the role. Experience of being part of a team and an appreciation of Council services would be an advantage.

This is a temporary position for up to 18 months duration.

Progression to Grade 3 will be subject to completion of NVQ level 2 Business Administration qualification and taking a higher level of responsibility for the job description items.
