Job Details

We are looking for a Behaviour Mentor who will support pupils with Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties in EYFS, KS1 and KS2.

This will be through one to one support, small group work e.g. nurture, therapies, interventions both in and out of class which you will plan, lead and assess accordingly. Through this work, positive behaviour and the schools values will be secured, ensuring the young person/persons can access learning to the best of their ability as a result of your work and interventions.

Candidates will also need to have the skills to work with children in lessons to help them stay focussed and employ the skills and strategies you have identified  to help the child to access the curriculum. This will to ensure behaviour is managed well and teachers are assisted when required.

As a mentor, you will also be required to support teachers with strategies and next steps for the child ensuring that the child has a consistent approach when you are not working in the lesson with them.  The candidate will also be required to monitor and review impact and report accordingly to leaders and teachers.  The successful candidate will need to be a professional role model who is enthusiastic and positive,  yet calm and assertive when necessary. The candidate will need to be able to engage and inspire the most hard to reach children and young people. As a mentor you will have excellent communication skills and have a good understanding of child safeguarding. It will also be an advantage to have SEN experience and restraint training although this is not essential

This position is specifically for a candidate that has experience dealing with pupils either in a mainstream or SEND setting who have additional needs that lead to challenging behaviour.

The successful candidate will -

  • have experience of working with SEMH pupils
  • have worked with young people with challenging behaviour
  • have experience with early intervention
  • have strong behaviour management skills.
  • Have understanding and experience of planning and leading interventions

 Blackheath Primary School is committed to safeguarding children, we take our responsibility extremely seriously. The successful candidate will need to undertake an Enhanced DBS check.
