Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) Male* Support Worker

The​ ​Truth​ ​Project​ ​has been set​ ​up​ ​to​ ​hear​ ​and​ ​learn​ ​from​ ​the​ ​experiences​ ​of​ ​victims​ ​and​ ​survivors from​ ​all​ ​over​ ​England​ ​and​ ​Wales.​ ​The​ ​Truth​ ​Project​ ​enables​ ​victims​ ​and​ ​survivors​ ​to​ ​share their​ ​experience​ ​with​ ​the​ ​Inquiry​ ​in​ ​a​ ​way​ ​that​ ​feels​ ​most​ ​comfortable​ ​for​ ​them.​ ​Victims​ ​and survivors​ ​can​ ​attend​ ​a​ ​private​ ​session​ ​in​ ​person​ ​or​ ​via​ ​telephone,​ ​submit​ ​a​ ​written​ ​account​ ​or submit​ ​an​ ​audio​ ​recording​ ​of​ ​themselves​ ​talking​ ​about​ ​their​ ​experiences.​ ​They​ ​may​ ​also choose​ ​to​ ​share​ ​drawings​ ​or​ ​creative​ ​writing​ ​that​ ​communicate​ ​their​ ​experiences.​ ​All experiences​ ​shared​ ​are​ ​treated​ ​in​ ​the​ ​same​ ​way.​ ​By​ ​sharing​ ​an​ ​experience,​ ​participants​ ​make an​ ​important​ ​contribution​ ​to​ ​the​ ​work​ ​of​ ​the​ ​Inquiry,​ ​and​ ​their​ ​experiences​ ​will​ ​influence​ ​its findings​ ​and​ ​help​ ​inform​ ​its​ ​recommendations.

The successful candidate will be experienced in providing support services to survivors of sexual abuse and have an understanding of the nature and impact of sexual violence on victims and survivors. As a minimum, experience should include:

• Working with adult victims and survivors as an Independent Sexual Violence Adviser, Counsellor, Crisis Worker, Case Worker or similar for a least one year.
• Understanding and managing trauma responses.
• Using grounding techniques.
• Identifying crisis situations and responding appropriately.
• Adult safeguarding and experience in managing safeguarding concerns appropriately including making safeguarding referrals.
• Understanding survivors' concerns around confidentiality and safeguarding processes.

The successful candidate will be required to work within a multi-agency setting to provide a pro-active service to victims and survivors of sexual violence to:

• Offer support to those who are participating in the Inquiry’s investigative work and those who attend meetings or other engagement events.
• Support victims and survivors to enable them to attend a private session in person or via telephone, submit a written account or submit an audio recording of themselves talking about their experiences to the Inquiry.
• Explain the Inquiry process to the participant, so they know what to expect.
• Where required, work alongside Inquiry staff in the provision of support at Inquiry events.
• Attend public hearings in a support capacity for the victim or survivor.
• Take part in the Inquiry’s research and legal seminars when required.

• Contribute towards service development.
• Maintain a caseload and accurate electronic records.
• Participate in individual clinical supervision, appraisal sessions and team meetings.
• Provide information about the impacts of sexual violence and signposting to specialist support services.

The post holder will be required to support participants nationally via telephone and travel to various locations when necessary.

There will be evening/weekend work as required.

Sessions will take place in:

• Liverpool
• London
• Darlington
• Exeter
• Cardiff

Where demand is recognised you may be required to support at additional locations across England and Wales as directed by the Inquiry.

Travel and accommodation outside of your region will be arranged and paid for.

An enhanced DBS disclosure will be required for this role, the cost of which will be incurred by WMRSASC.
