The post holder will apply advanced public health expertise and manage a broad portfolio of health improvement programmes which aim to improve the health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities. This will include contributing to building capacity for health and wellbeing improvement across the council, partners and the public.

You will need to have a degree in a health and wellbeing related field, be highly self –motivated with exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

In the role you will Develop, lead, manage and implement key health and wellbeing programmes for either children and young people, adults and communities or older people, which identify and address health inequalities, Facilitate and co-ordinate the development and implementation of policy and strategy, including the interpretation of national policy at a local level, Work with partners to apply evidence base settings development approaches to promote health and wellbeing, prevent ill health and support those affected by ill health maintain inclusion, Develop, support and maintain effective multi agency delivery partnerships relevant to the designated work area, Contribute to the design, planning, implementation, performance management and evaluation of health and wellbeing programmes so that that they contribute to local and national priorities, Promote and facilitate joint working, collaboration and integrated programmes services between partner agencies and key stakeholders across settings and sectors; utilising appropriate multi-agency groups and networks to deliver improved outcomes and reduced costs. Ensure that target groups and communities are effectively engaged and involved in delivery throughout the whole programme process.

You should have significant experience of working in a public health or health improvement role e.g. education, environment, Public Health nursing, community /youth work or other, Excellent negotiating and influencing skills, successful delivery of projects in collaboration with partners, within timescale and resources, Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to network and develop effective relationships, Sound understanding of community engagement and community development approaches

As a Senior Health Improvement Practitioner, you will take a lead role in a range of health improvement programmes and services. This post is primarily supporting working age adults but may also work on programmes for children and young people.
The postholder will work closely with other colleagues across the Council to develop the council’s workplace health and wellbeing programme and take a lead role in commissioning and managing occupational health services. The postholder will also be involved in work to mitigate poverty across the borough.
