Hawbush Primary is a school that is improving in every capacity. We aim for our children to ‘live their dreams and be exceptional’ and do all we can to ensure our learners make the best progress possible. Since the appointment of the new Head Teacher, the school has developed a two year Old’s Nursery and is now excited to be opening a Specialist ASD Primary Base to add to our school family.

The Governing Board and Head Teacher of Hawbush Primary School are seeking to recruit an outstanding individual to undertake the role of leading the development of our new Specialist ASD Primary Base, which shall be being introduced to Hawbush from September 2019 following a commissioning from the local authority.

The provision will be housed in our purpose built ASD Base (presently Community Room), which shall provide ASD specialist provision for primary learners. This shall initially be for 8 children, with a high ratio of staff support. The pupil placements shall be determined by the newly established ‘Management and Admission Board’ of which this post holder shall form a member of.
The target group for the ASD Base are children with ASD or Asperger Syndrome, who are cognitively capable of accessing the mainstream primary curriculum, but who are vulnerable to an increased risk of, mental health problems, permanent exclusion, being disengaged from education, suffering a school-related phobia, profound anxiety or other factors which may adversely impact on their academic progress or access to education.

This role will suit someone who has a considerable drive; commitment; ambition and knowledge to support the Head teacher in ensuring that this base is a successful addition to the school.

The teacher will have responsibilities for:
-Leadership and Management of the ASD Base
-Teaching and Learning at the ASD Base
-Day to Day Delegation of Duties and management of the base (Support will be provided by the Head Teacher as required)
-Co-ordination of support for pupils within the school’s classes and activities and liaison with the staff of Hawbush Primary, parents and external agencies

This post holder will be a member of the school’s Leadership Team and will attend SLT meetings and support the development of T+L within the school for pupils with SEND as well as within the resource base.
Our Head Teacher is looking in particular for someone who has SEND experience within a mainstream setting; is knowledgeable of strategies to support ASD Pupils and is able to bring together the newly appointed team to ensure the provision is a success. The holding of a post graduate ASD qualification is desirable or the willingness to work towards it is essential.

‘Hawbush Primary is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable groups, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.’
