Job Details

245.25 hours per year; annualised hours worked weekends and Bank Holidays on rota basis. There may be occasions where you will be asked to work a weekday to make up your hours.


Birmingham Register Office is the largest Register Office in the country hence being very busy.

To attend and legally register marriages and Civil Partnerships at the Register Office and religious buildings as part of their statutory duties during the weekend and bank holidays. In addition the team provide a vital out of hours emergency bereavement service for those, whose religious beliefs require prompt burial or repatriation out of England of a deceased person. The team also provide renewal of vows and baby naming ceremonies.

Carrying out legal requirements for registering marriages and civil partnerships and other ceremonies
Support and assist in delivery of income generation schemes
Ensuring safe custody of registers and certificates
Accurate accounting for fees
Ensuring certificates of burial and cremation are correctly issued in accordance with legislation and Processing of removal orders for out of England repatriation
Excellent organisational skills
Works well under pressure
Excellent communication skills - verbal and written

Able to speak an appropriate standard of English as covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016
