We are seeking a permanent part time Welfare Rights Officer to work for 15 hours per week within our Specialist Support Team. The postholder will be responsible for providing high quality advice, consultancy and training on Social Security benefit entitlements.

The post holder will:

Undertake appeals work (both at First-tier Tribunal and the Upper Tribunal)

provide technical advice and support to local groups and organisations and individuals on the rights to Social Security benefits in person, by phone and by email

be expected to design and produce appropriate information and training materials on Social Security benefit rights and welfare reform measures affecting relevant groups

be expected to deliver appropriate workshops and training courses on Social Security benefits and welfare reform to local groups and organisations

You must be committed to the rights of claimants and to helping the Council and partner organisations meet responsibilities to those in need of its services. You must have recent experience of high-quality advice in Social Security law and practice, and experience of delivering training and undertaking regular and effective representation at tribunals. You must have excellent communication and negotiation skills. You must have the ability to design and produce effective information packages for both claimants and professionals.
