Staffordshire Youth Offending Service are looking to recruit to the above post which is based at our North hub in Newcastle – under- Lyme.

To apply for this post candidates will need to have:  

  • Relevant experience/qualification relating to work with young people
  • Possess key skills equivalent to Level 2 in English, Maths, Communication and IT

Staffordshire Youth Offending Service (SYOS) operates as one of the Youth Offending Services across England and Wales and is an integral part of the Youth Justice System. Within Families First, SYOS is an integral part of the Early Help & Specialist Safeguarding Delivery Service, with the County Manager (SYOS) reporting directly to the Strategic Lead (Early Help, Specialist Safeguarding Delivery & Youth Offending Service) who provides management oversight and is line-managed by the Director of Families & Communities and Deputy Chief Executive, who reports directly to the County Council’s Chief Executive Officer.

Staffordshire Youth Offending Service has an excellent reputation and has been rated one of the top Services in England and Wales.

Following our most recent inspection, the HM Chief inspector of Probation stated Staffordshire Youth Offending Service were exemplary at preventing first time entrants from reoffending and was awarded 22 stars out of 24 in recognition of reintegrating young people into society.

As stated this post will be based in Newcastle under Lyme at the newly built Castle House covering the North of the County.  Successful candidates will be required to work flexibly, with some evening and weekend duties, on a planned basis.

As part of this role you will be expected to undertake a range of tasks including:

  • Supervising children and young people subject to out of court disposals and Court Orders
  • Completing assessments and reports
  • Being part of an Office Duty Rota, which will include acting as Appropriate Adults for children requiring a police interview.
  • Supporting children and young people to engage in education, training and employment
  • Participate in Restorative Justice practices.
