Walsall Council’s Corporate Plan 2018- 2021 recognises ‘Economic Growth’ as one of its core priorities. Indeed, a successful local economy matters across all outcomes for the Council and its partners. Together with this commitment, we have the drive and ambition to make the most of all local, regional and national opportunities and ensure delivery. One of the important work streams in achieving our Borough’s economic success is our Local Planning Authority functions, including the preparation and adoption of our Local Plan and our approach to achieving successful planning decisions.

In addition the Council is investing in new ways of working through our Walsall Proud Programme which is leading to new ICT provision and working arrangements to ensure the services that the people and businesses of Walsall need are delivered as efficiently as possible by our busy and high performing teams.

We are therefore seeking talented and enthusiastic planning professionals to join our Planning Policy and Development Management teams and help us continue our successes. You will have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with the public, colleagues and members, and work effectively with stakeholders. Good written and interpersonal communication skills are essential and these posts are covered by the Government’s Code of Practice on the English Language Fluency Duty.

Planning Policy Officer (2 Posts) - Ref: EE42719

£32,552 to £37,475 per annum

Having adopted our Local Plan- the Walsall Site Allocation Document and Walsall Town Centre Area Action Plan –earlier this year, our planning policy function is looking ahead to the review of the Black Country Core Strategy- the ‘Black Country Plan’. You will join the team at a critical stage of the review and this presents an exciting opportunity for a planning professional to bring their expertise to Walsall and the sub-region. Our Local Plan plays an integral role in promoting the economic prosperity of Walsall and the Black Country in a sustainable way, and you will provide continued advice and guidance to developers, investors, senior officers and the Local Planning Authority.

You will have a track record of supporting the preparation of local plans, with a keen eye for delivery and the challenges facing a complex land use borough such as Walsall. You will possess excellent analytical abilities and be able to demonstrate good communication skills. We are particularly interested to hear from you if you have experience in plan making for the environment and centres.
