We are looking for confident, motivated individuals to join our friendly, busy team. These posts will support effective risk management and supervision in a high profile area of the local authority.

Litigation & Employment

The team deals with employment, education, civil and criminal litigation matters as well as SEN work. As a service we focus on providing positive and proactive advice to client departments across a number of services.  You will have a caseload and managerial responsibility. We are looking for a skilled lawyer with a high level of knowledge in this area of legal work, ideally with a particular knowledge of one or more of the areas of law mentioned above and with a desire to develop skills of team members.

Key Responsibilities - To be responsible to the Head of Law for the provision of effective high quality legal advice, casework and support to the Council and clients in respect of employment, education, civil and criminal litigation, SEN matters and to give general advice. In addition, to provide support to the team and to advise on policy work and committee reports where appropriate.

Social Care Team

The team deals with all children and adults social care legal work. As a service we focus on providing positive and proactive advice to client departments across a number of services.  You will have a caseload and managerial responsibility. We are looking for a skilled lawyer with a high level of knowledge in this area of legal work, ideally with a particular knowledge of children and adults social care, judicial review and with a desire to develop skills of team members.

Key Responsibilities - To be responsible to the Head of Law for the provision of effective high quality legal advice, casework and support to the Council and clients in respect of adult social care provided by the team to include policy work and committee reports where appropriate.

Requirements

Solicitor or Barrister, with degree level qualification (or equivalent). Demonstrable experience of managing, motivating and developing staff.

For this role the successful candidates must undergo a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check.  BPSS is the minimum standard to ensure the identity and integrity of an employee who has access to official information using secure networks linking central government and local authorities.  A BPSS check involves four main elements; Identity Check, National and Immigration Status, Employment History (last 3 years) and Verification of Criminal Record (unspent convictions only).
