This is a fixed term contract until 20 July 2020 due to Funding.

The Governors are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Learning Support Assistant to join our committed and dedicated team. They should be proactive, show initiative at all times and have a firm but fair approach. They should have the welfare and safety of our children at heart at all times.

The successful candidate will provide a high level of care for all of the children and have the desire to work with children with SEN, for example children with ASD (Autism) and challenging behaviour.

They will take responsibility for 1:1 children ensuring the pupils’ welfare, safety and supervision at all times. Supporting SEN pupils, in particular children with ASD on a 1:1 basis under the direction of the class teacher and SENCo.

The post involves providing general classroom support and 1:1 support to individual children in EYFS, KS1 or KS2 as well as delivering interventions to small groups of pupils through the schools wellbeing agenda.

Candidates should have the following qualities and experience:

  • minimum of NVQ level 2 in a relevant qualification;
  • assisting pupils with dress/changing for activities/personal hygiene;
  • of working in an educational establishment;
  • as a Teaching Assistant;
  • of supporting children working in EYFS/KS1/ KS2;
  • of providing support to children with varying challenges;
  • in creating resources to help the child/ren they are supporting;
  • PECS/TEACCH or Makaton training is also an advantage;
  • MAPA training is also an advantage;
  • a working knowledge of nurture.

The person appointed will have high standards and expectations in all areas of school life and will be committed to a teamwork approach. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering basic first aid, if required (training will be provided).

Springfield Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  An enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance is required for this role.

This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to speak fluent and spoken English is an essential requirement for this role.
