Job Details

East Staffordshire Borough Council provides a wide range of services to its residents. Despite the challenging economic conditions the Council maintains a strong level of performance, provides value for money to its residents and is financially resilient.

We are looking to appoint a committed, self-motivated and flexible financial professional to support the Chief Accountant in the provision of a comprehensive financial support service to the Council.

The successful candidate will initially be responsible for a wide range of financial activities, including co-ordinating the closure of accounts, monitoring of business rates income and collection fund accounting. You will also be responsible for overseeing the day to day activities of the technical accounting team covering financial systems maintenance, treasury management, insurance and income management. There will also be an opportunity to lead various projects and initiatives in order to ensure the continuous improvement of the service.

You will need to be a fully qualified accountant, preferably CIPFA, with significant experience in a local authority finance environment.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in the preparation of statutory accounts, together with strong technical accounting skills and a good working knowledge of the local authority financial codes of practice. You should have a proven track record of undertaking complex financial analysis and possess the ability to communicate this information in an understandable manner.
