Job Details
We are looking for active, dynamic carers who are willing to work with the service to provide a secure home environment where a parent has the opportunity to demonstrate whether or not they can care for their child in the community.
A Parent and Child foster placement is a specialist role where foster carers support and observe parents in order to help them safely provide for their child.
The benefits of being a carer in this scheme:
- You will contribute to the safeguarding and long term welfare of a child, potentially helping a parent and child move back into the community.
- We recognise being home full time is a big undertaking and therefore you will be paid a weekly payment of £538.44 alongside other fostering allowances.
- You will have the support of a dedicated fostering social worker and social care worker.
- You will have the support of a team of professionals who are working with the parent and their child and who can offer you one to one advice and support if needed.
- You will have access to a specialist training programme, some of which will commence during your assessment period.
- You will have access to 24 hour support when the offices are closed via the foster care support line and Emergency Duty Team.
Key Requirements
- The primary carer will need to be at home and not working
- To offer three 12 week placements a year
- There can be no other children looked after in the home and if you have your own children living in the home they need to be aged 7 years or older.
- The foster carers will need adequate accommodation for the parent and child to have their own room or share a room (as appropriate) but also be able to accommodate the child in the carers bedroom where safeguarding requires this.
- To work to Child Protection Plans and Care Plans as outlined for the Court
- To work as part of a multi-agency team including health, education and specialist support services.
- To demonstrate a commitment to ongoing training and evidence previous relevant training undertaken and to complete core training pertaining to specialist care and the Training Support and Development Standards (TSD). If you are a couple both carers to need to commit to attend training to develop skills and knowledge in order to ensure consistency of approach.
- To commit to regular and comprehensive support (including formal supervision), reflective practice and peer support networks.
- To have reliable and accepting personal support networks.
- To provide written reports, attend and contribute at meetings as required.
- To comply with Fostering Standards and Regulations and Departmental Guidance and Procedures.
