Who are we?
Severndale Specialist Academy is a multi-site Academy catering for children with special educational needs in Shropshire. Our children and young people can access Severndale Specialist Academy from Reception through to Sixth Form and have a range of learning difficulties, physical and mobility difficulties and some pupils who require personal care. A number of our young people present behavioral difficulties arising from their condition; many have communication difficulties and use Makaton signing as their primary form of communication.
We require innovative, highly motivated and inspirational staff to join the Severndale Team. You will be joining an exceptional group of highly skilled Teachers, Teaching Assistants and support staff who work collaboratively to provide a highly personalised curriculum.
What is the purpose of the role:
The Academy is seeking an intervention teacher to play a key role in assisting students who are experiencing difficulties with positively engaging with school. With experience in special education in either mainstream / specialist setting, the intervention teacher will provide expertise and creative approaches to support students who demonstrate behavioural, social and emotional challenges. Working with parents and classroom teachers, the intervention teacher will have strong communication skills to provide detailed reports of student progress and develop supplementary education that serves as a companion to the general curriculum. The intervention teacher will be working closely with the teaching and pastoral teams to identify students who require additional assistance on a fixed term contract and also provide intervention initiatives across the Academy.
Role requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Qualified Teacher Status
- Previous experience of teaching students with challenging behaviour and SEND
- Ability to tailor lessons based on each child’s individual needs

- Ability to build good relationships with children, teachers and parents
- Ability to manage with challenging behavior
