Job Details

We are looking for active, dynamic carers who are willing to work with learning difficulties, autism and physical disabilities. We need carers who could be matched with 5/6 children with disabilities, providing support at weekends and during the week, as well as in school holidays age 6-18 years old.

Sometimes the needs of children can mean that even ordinary things like shopping, decorating, helping other children with homework or having a night out without the children can be difficult. Short Term Breaks makes it possible for parents and children to take a break now and again and helps keep children in a family setting. It also gives the children new experiences and the chance to make new friends. For their parents, it means some time for themselves and for any other children in the family.

The benefits of being a carer in this scheme:

  • You will have the support of a dedicated fostering social worker and social care worker.
  • Carers will be paid £349.58 weekly and in addition, carers would receive all fostering allowances on a pro rata basis.
  • The foster carer can apply for adaptions to their home through WCC’s adaptations fund to enable them to care for children.
  • You will have access to a specialist training programme, some of which will commence during your assessment period.
  • You will have access to 24 hour support when the offices are closed via the foster care support line and Emergency Duty Team.

Key requirements:

  • To have experience of working/caring for someone with a disability
  • To work to Child Protection Plans and Care Plans if the children is subject to either (as outlined for the Court)
  • To work as part of a multi-agency team including health, education and specialist support services.
  • To demonstrate a commitment to ongoing training and evidence previous relevant training undertaken and to complete core training pertaining to specialist care and the Training Support and Development Standards (TSD). If you are a couple both carers to need to commit to attend training to develop skills and knowledge in order to ensure consistency of approach.
  • To commit to regular and comprehensive support (including formal supervision), reflective practice and peer support networks.
  • To have reliable and accepting personal support networks.
  • To provide written reports, attend and contribute at meetings as required.
  • To comply with Fostering Standards and Regulations and Departmental Guidance and Procedures.
