Job Details

This job is available until 31/08/2021 on a fixed term contract. Please note this position is being offered as an apprenticeship.

The post is full time but of these hours, the equivalent of one day a week will be spent completing a formal apprenticeship qualification at Level 3 - 5.

You will be based in the migration team in the Adult Social Care Directorate, working with the MiFriendly Cities Project Manager and the Senior Commissioning Officer for Resettlement.

The migration team has responsibility for several migration related projects and activities including the MiFriendly Cities Project, the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme, responsibilities related to the dispersal and move-on of Asylum Seekers in the city, the Birmingham Migration Forum, as well as some cross-Council policy and strategy work.

You will be working on the Mi(gration)Friendly Cities project - a regional partnership initiative including 11 partners from a range of sectors. The project is aimed at making the cities of Birmingham, Coventry and Wolverhampton "migration friendly" by facilitating and recognising the contributions of refugees and migrants.

Alongside your work on the MiFriendly Cities Project, there will be an expectation to work flexibly on other areas of work within the migration team, such as the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme. Throughout, you will work closely with teams across the council, as well as with external partner organisations and key stakeholders.

This is an interesting and exciting area of work for someone looking to develop skills and knowledge in project management, business administration, policy, partnerships and with a genuine interest in the wider migration / refugees and integration agenda.

The key requirements of the role are:

  • To provide consistently high quality administrative Business Support to the Mi(gration)Friendly Cities project and, to a lesser extent, the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme.
  • To assist in the development and application of project management techniques to support the overall project and outcomes for the work area.
  • To be flexible and adaptive to the needs of the work area and business as a whole.
  • To undertake a formal qualification at Apprenticeship Level 3-5 within the duration of the contract.

Please note this is an apprenticeship opportunity. The job is full time, but you will spend the equivalent of one day a week in training to complete an apprenticeship qualification with relevance to the job at level 3 - 5. This is a fixed-term post until the end of August 2021.

There is a clear vision which is ensuring that the Council is working for communities today and building for tomorrow, we focus our resources on five key priorities:

  • A Prosperous Birmingham: through a focus on inclusive economic growth, tackling unemployment, attracting inward investment, and maximising the benefits of the Commonwealth Games.
