Job Details

Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), the transport arm of the West Midlands Combined Authority is a rapidly growing and fast emerging as a standard setter in the industry. We are a Sunday Times Top 100 Best Companies employer and in October 2017, we became only the second ever to win the ‘City Region Authority of the Year’ twice in a row at the National

Transport Awards. A new Regional Transport Coordination Centre is being created to provide a unified and common view of traffic and transport services enabling the network to operate efficiently.  We need new talent to join our already excellent team that is making a real difference to people within the West Midlands.

About the RTCC

The West Midlands Regional Transport Coordination Centre (RTCC) will be a multi-modal, multi-agency facility providing regional coordination of transport networks and services to help Local Authorities, Emergency Services transport agencies and operators provide more reliable, resilient and integrated transport services to residents,  businesses and visitors.  This umbrella coordination will allow core partners to manage local transport networks as part of an integrated transport system which maximises the efficient movement of people and goods.

A key role of the RTCC will be to minimise the impacts of disruption to those using the transport system during planned works or major incidents.  This will provide for the first time a facility that understands the performance across the whole transport system and enables effective, coordinated, and consistent information and travel advice to our residents, business, visitors and those travelling through the region to improve people’s journeys and reduce congestion.

About the Role

As a tactical thinker and decision maker, you will manage the smooth functioning of RTCC operations, coordinating the assimilation and distribution of network performance metrics.  For planned events or when significant disruption to the network occurs, you will lead the RTCC team, ensuring the impacts of the event or incident have been fully assessed and that a proportionate, coordinated response is put in place. You will make sure transport network status reports are disseminated to customers and other key stakeholders in real time, enabling them to make informed travel choices.

You will play a key role in shaping the RTCC defining the Detailed Operating Plans, protocols, processes and procedures; identifying training requirements, and helping to build the RTCC team.

The successful candidate will have proven transport control room or front line operational management experience. Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills will enable the candidate to communicate and collaborate effectively with RTCC staff, representatives from all transport agencies and operators and local politicians. The right individual will care passionately about ensuring the right job is done to an excellent standard and will excel in an environment of collaboration, empowerment and responsibility. With an eye for detail, they will have the ability to thrive in a fast paced environment which demands a culture of initiative taking, innovation and problem solving.

There is a requirement to work a shift pattern to meet the requirements of the business.

In return for your hard work and commitment, we will reward you with a range of competitive and attractive benefits.

To view and apply for these opportunities please visit https://www.wmca.org.uk/careers where you will be required to register with our Online Recruitment System which is quick and easy. Please provide detailed information in your application outlining your suitability for the post and ensure it is submitted by the closing date.

Closing Date: 21 July 2019

Interview date: TBA
