Summary of Employability Mentor Post

To mentor a caseload of young people aged 11-29 across a variety of community and school settings, as part of the organisation’s ‘mentoring’ service.

Job Description

  • To deliver intensive work, focussed on pre-employment and appropriate post-employment opportunities
  • To support and mentor disadvantaged, NEET, and at risk of NEET young people (12-29) within specified delivery areas
  • To support a young person’s progression using a mix of holistic support and mentoring techniques, keeping a focus on achieving sustainable employment and/or training/education at all times 

Main duties and responsibilities

Partnerships & Recruitment 

  • To liaise with point of contact at established partners – i.e. schools and/ or Job Centre Plus to maintain effective working relationships in order to provide effective holistic support and mentoring
  • To convert young people from referral through to engagement on S4L mentoring services
  • To recruit target young people within allocated areas of the community; Parks and Open Spaces and other suitable environments
  • To undertake S4L’s Intake & Assessment process with newly recruited young people
  • To support the Sports Coordinator in the effective recruitment of, and engagement with the hardest-to-reach young people within the priority areas of the S4L Mentoring service.

  Mentoring

  • To provide structured employment and personal development themed mentoring to young people to achieve both outcome and non-outcome progressions
  • To deliver an intensive outcome-focused offer, addressing barriers to work and supporting them into sustainable employment, education or training
  • To establish and maintain positive and supportive relationships with young people, whilst ensuring caseload capacity targets are achieved
  • To contact, communicate and support young people based on S4L mentoring procedures and processes
  • To manage your individual delivery budget, ensuring budget lines are monitored and adhered to

  Monitoring & Evaluation

  • To record and track client progress and gather required monitoring data
  • To input required data into S4L’s CRM system in a timely manner as per the S4L M&E process
  • Adhere to the S4L’s M&E process inclusive of, but not exclusive to registers, intake and assessment data, all outcome data, client feedback, and partner feedback

General duties

  • To support across both S4L Mentoring and Training services to achieve organisational wide aims including but not exclusive to recruitment, internal referrals, delivery and other responsibilities deemed fit by  management
  • To uphold and reflect S4L values and mission statement
  • Analyse and evaluate personal performance and project performance
  • To complete basic administrative duties
  • To assist the Senior Operations Team with any other duties, as required
  • To assist the Operations Manager with any other duties, as required

Accountable to their Line Manager

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Level 3 in Coaching & mentoring (or equivalent)
  • Evidence of CPD in youth education sector
  • Mentoring qualification 
  • A relevant qualification – e.g. Sales/ recruitment qualification, JNC youth work degree, PGCE, PTLSS, NVQ IAG, or equivalent 

Experience, Knowledge and skills in...

  • Recruiting hard to reach young people
  • 1+ year of working with 12-29 year old in learning and NEET young people
  • Delivering personal development support 
  • Delivering quality client IAG 
  • Working with and mentoring NEETs
  • Managing a caseload of young people 

Other

  • An infectious passion, enthusiasm & charisma
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • A fully enhanced DBS disclosure
  • Ability and confidence to work alone
  • Ability to complete administrative tasks, and use computers (e.g. email, word processing)
  • High levels of self-motivation, energy and determination
