Sports Co-ordinator Job Description

  • To plan and deliver sports sessions for disadvantaged ‘In Learning’ and NEET, inactive and unemployed young people (11-29) within S4L delivery areas
  • To deliver against S4L’s internal Sports Syllabus
  • To coordinate and support the management of a series of sessional staff and/ or sessional volunteers
  • Recruit young people both internally and externally to S4L sports sessions
  • To timetable scheduled sport sessions that provide varied opportunities inclusive of, but not limited to geographical distribution, gender, learning styles and abilities
  • To achieve S4L’s retention targets around sign up, attendance and progressions

Main duties and responsibilities

Partnerships, Outreach & Recruitment 

  • To recruit target young people within allocated areas of the community; parks and open spaces and other suitable environments through sports outreach
  • To liaise with point of contact at established partners – i.e. schools and/ or youth groups to maintain effective working relationships in order to recruit young people to sessions
  • To convert young people from referral through to engagement on S4L sports sessions
  • To plan and facilitate sports tournaments as an outreach and recruitment activity
  • To liaise with relevant partners to recruit external referrals
  • To signpost and refer young people to internal mentoring and training opportunities
  • To lead the recruitment of, and engagement with the hardest-to-reach young people, through community outreach in priority areas

  Sports Delivery

  • To plan and deliver S4L sports sessions inclusive of, but not exclusive to venue booking, session planning, and equipment resourcing
  • To support the Team Leader with the timetabling and management of sessional staff
  • To deliver sports sessions targeted at 11-18’s, 18-29’s, and female-only in a range of community and school settings
  • To adapt delivery content (in consultation with S4L Employability Mentors) to accommodate differing learning styles and abilities of young people
  • To develop additional delivery content to suit the needs of females and NEET young people respectively
  • To plan and deliver community sports tournaments focusing on community integration and recruitment
  • To support an intensive outcome-focused offer, addressing barriers to work and supporting them into sustainable employment, education or training by reporting young people’s progress to S4L Employability Mentors
  • To support Sports Leadership qualifications by accommodating learner community coaching hours
  • To establish and maintain positive and supportive relationships with young people, whilst ensuring sport targets are achieved
  • To contact, communicate and support young people based on S4L Training Team delivery procedures and processes
  • To manage your individual delivery budget, ensuring budget lines are monitored and adhered to

  Monitoring & Evaluation

  • To record and track client progress and gather required monitoring data
  • To input required data into S4L’s CRM system in a timely manner as per the S4L M&E process
  • To adhere to the S4L’s M&E process inclusive of, but not exclusive to registers, intake and assessment data, all outcome data, client feedback, and partner feedback

General duties

  • To support across both S4L Training and Mentoring services to achieve organisational wide aims including but not exclusive to recruitment, internal referrals, delivery and other responsibilities deemed fit by  management
  • To uphold and reflect S4L values and mission statement
  • To analyse and evaluate personal performance and project performance
  • To complete basic administrative duties
  • To assist the Senior Operations Team with any other duties, as required
  • To assist the Operations Manager with any other duties, as required

Scope of Authority

  • Accountable to their Line Manager

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Evidence of CPD in youth education/ sport sector
  • A relevant Level 2 NGB in sport qualification
  • A relevant degree in sports coaching and/ or youth education

Experience, Knowledge and skills in...

  • Recruiting hard to reach young people  to sports activities
  • Working with 12-29 year old in learning and NEET young people
  • 1 year + sports coaching
  • Working with female-only groups
  • 2 years + sports coaching experience

Other

  • An infectious passion, enthusiasm & charisma
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • A fully enhanced DBS disclosure
  • Ability and confidence to work alone
  • Ability to complete administrative tasks, and use computers (e.g. email, word processing)
  • High levels of self-motivation, energy and determination 
  • A polite, professional appearance & manner 
  • Evidence of commitment S4L’s vision 
  • An interest in and passion for sport
