As a City of Peace and Reconciliation that offers a safe place for refugees and asylum seekers, it was one of the first to offer a place of safety and welcome to the victims of the Syrian conflict in 2014. 

The Migration team are seeking to recruit a Business Support Officer to assist in managing and delivering our EU UIA funded Mi-Friendly Cities’ initiative. You will be supporting the day-to-day business management of this project. One of your key activities will be processing financial management systems and monitoring the income and expenditure of the project, as well as to record, process and follow up payments to suppliers due to be paid in accordance with agreed payment terms and conditions. 

This is an exciting and varied role which will support the delivery of this £4.5 million regional project. The Business Support Officer will work closely with a wider team including the Programme Delivery Manager and Programme Officers. 

You will be working as a part of the City Council’s Migration Team that delivers the wider agenda on Migration in the city including special resettlement schemes like the Syrian Resettlement Scheme as well as the Building Bridges project. Together with MiFriendly Cities, all these projects are intended to deliver services to enable a holistic model of integration for newly arrived communities to be created in Coventry. 

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about supporting refugees and migrants with strong IT, organisational, analytical and administrative skills. 

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate: 

  • Excellent ICT skills and be proficient in using a variety of packages such as Agresso, Word and Excel in order to accurately record, analyse, monitor and review information 
  • Excellent Excel skills to monitor income and expenditure of the project, as well as record, process and follow up payments to suppliers 
  • Ability to review financial statements and reports, ensure all calculations and data entries are correct  
  • Meticulous approach and attention to detail to ensure effective financial and administrative support to the project  
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, on your own and with a wide range of partners is also critical to this role and strong analytical and interpersonal skills 
  • Help oversee and manage individual accounts 
  •  Create, send, and follow up on invoices 
  • Collect and enter data for various financial spreadsheets 
  • Reconcile any discrepancies or errors identified by conversing with partners 
  • Effective time management skills, with an ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, prioritise competing work tasks 
  •  Ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion 
  • Experience of handling and processing manual or computerised information 

This post is funded by external grant and is therefore offered as a fixed term contract until 28th Feb 2021.
