Job Details
Sandwell Council has a key role to play in an ambitious borough-wide 2030 Vision .
This vision provides a great opportunity for the Council, the public, partners and other stakeholders to think and work differently; and to build on past successes and make further positive differences to the lives of Sandwell residents.
An exciting leadership opportunity has arisen within our Law and Governance Directorate where the successful applicant will lead on the priorities associated with our Democratic, Committee, Electoral and Mayoralty functions which play a pivotal role in the Council realising its ambitions.
You will be responsible for the effective day-to-day management and delivery of functions falling within:
- Democratic Services (Committee Administration and Constitutional Oversight)
- Electoral Services
- Civic and Member Services
You’ll need to be able to demonstrate excellent transformational leadership and engagement skills with the ability to communicate with the Executive, Elected Members and Officers in Sandwell’s Senior Management team. This is genuinely an excellent opportunity for an individual who can deliver change effectively and at pace.
The Council has embarked upon an ambitious Governance Review which includes revising its scrutiny function, decision making arrangements, and its Constitution. You will play a significant role in delivering this agenda and have the opportunity to shape the future direction of the Democratic Function and Service within the Council.
You will need to demonstrate a clear understanding of and extensive experience in local government, with a proven track record of implementing transformational change in relation to governance, democratic services, financial management, and know what excellence looks like in these areas. Project management experience and a clear commitment to your own professional development is also essential to the post.
Should you require an informal discussion, or any further information in the first instance please contact Elaine Dorsett PA to Surjit Tour- Director of Law and Governance & Monitoring Officer on 0121 569 3264 or email elaine_dorsett@Sandwell.gov.uk
