Job Details

As a founding member of the Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP, we are positive about planning and the opportunities that can be captured through managing change. We have a strong Local Plan which was adopted in 2015, we have made 15 neighbourhood plans, we have top quartile performance in the determination of over 900 planning applications last year and can boast an enviable housing land supply in excess of 6 years.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to be a very important part of an energetic team of Service Managers. You will lead the Council’s high achieving Planning section and have overall responsibility for Development Control, Planning Policy and Local Land Charges.

This is a very exciting role in a fast moving environment but it is much more than managing great bunch of high-performing staff and delivering excellent services. A strong and energetic leader, you will motivate your team to ensure delivery of exceptional results and with your outstanding communication skills will continue to build strong relationships with key elected members, colleagues, partners and stakeholders. Through effective collaboration internally and externally you will take lead responsibility for developing new strategies, SPDs, policies and procedures and of course you will be instrumental in the Council’s constant drive for continuous improvement.

A degree or other relevant qualification with an appropriate further qualification such as membership of a professional body.

Full membership of the Royal Town and Planning Institute (RTPI).

Thorough knowledge of the current local government environment and the challenges facing district councils in the relevant service area.

A successful track record of achievement in their service area/areas including extensive period within a large and challenging organisation.

Substantial experience of planning, including extensive period within development control.

Substantial direct management experience, managing multi-disciplinary teams
