Senior Social Worker – Children’s – COMPASS (Initial Contact Team)

12 months Fixed Term Contract

This is an exciting time to join Shropshire Council. We are are committed to ensuring that vulnerable children and young people are effectively supported to reach their full potential, delivered through our effective early help and prevention services, and strong partnerships that ensure safeguarding remains the highest priority for children and young people.

As part of our journey we have developed our front door, known as Compass, of which the Senior Social Worker role plays an integral part in ensuring children and young people have a timely decision and intervention, in regard to safeguarding concerns that have arisen.

Shropshire are committed to high standards and achieving the very best outcomes for children and young people through proactive and child focused care planning. This is achieved by ensuring that we listen to the voice of the child, young person and their families, understand their needs and work together to agree how these needs will be met with the right help and support at the right time. This is supported by close multi-agency working arrangements with all agencies within Shropshire.  Within Compass there are a range of professionals who are co-located as well as virtual partners, who come together with the sharing of information to inform robust decision making.

Above all we value and listen to the views of children and young people and endeavour to shape our services around their needs.

We are looking for forward thinking and highly motivated candidates who are able to provide a good quality service to our most vulnerable children. This is an exciting opportunity for you to excel in a rewarding environment. As a Senior Social Worker you will have highly developed specialist knowledge of social work practice.

You will have extensive experience in completing assessments and making recommendations on how those needs can be met. You will have a significant knowledge of legislation and regulation guidance relevant to your role and experience of working in frontline children’s services.

Your advanced expertise and knowledge will help you make decisions on the most complex matters arising and you will take the lead in chairing multi agency strategy meetings and daily domestic abuse triage. You will have strong written and verbal skills, and experience of mentoring/supervising less experience social workers. You will be an HCPC-registered Social Worker with an understanding of social work practice encountered throughout the child’s journey, including social work assessment, child protection, children looked after and court work.

We are looking for forward thinking and highly motivated candidates who are able to provide support to the Team Manager and colleagues within the team you are in. You will have some mentoring/supervision responsibilities and, in developing the team, you will support staff through your leadership, drive, and commitment to the highest performance and practice standards.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to excel in a challenging yet highly rewarding environment.
