Network Resilience and Data Management

The West Midlands is at the heart of the UK’s national motorway network with the M5, M6, M40 and M42 performing crucial national and regional economic functions. In addition, the Key Route Network (KRN) connects the region into the motorway network and carries 50% of all local traffic. The region is currently experiencing an unprecedented level of investment in its transport system by HS2, Highways England, local authorities and Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) enabling our ambitions for growth. Our network resilience priorities are to better manage congestion, mitigate the impacts from these investment programmes and support the continued economic performance of the region. Working with multiple stakeholders and our own Data Insight Service, we will acquire, analyse and make best use of data sources in order to provide a single view of the investment programme to strengthen our approach to planning, mitigation and demand management. With the opening of the Regional Transport Coordination Centre (RTCC) in December 2019, this role will form a core part of the team strengthening our approach to network management using advanced extract, transform and load techniques to model, manipulate and quality check data in order to ensure the trustworthiness, timeliness and support of new solutions.

Who we need

We need progressive thinking dynamic individuals to join us, as we use evidence to shape our £7.3 billion transport programme.

You will manage the improvement of network resilience and this will be in close collaboration with the Data Insight Service at TfWM and multiple external stakeholders.

In addition, work closely with the RTCC staff to lead the specific data requirements in support of the Duty Managers and Corridor Managers.

An essential part of the role will be establish, influence and maintain effective working relationships with all external and internal stakeholders including local authorities, HS2, Highways England, Network Rail, Midland Metro Alliance and Birmingham Airport.

You will lead on the delivery of a GIS based single view of the overall West Midlands wide investment programmes to satisfy our ministerial requirements for mitigating impacts and disruption to businesses and the economy of the region.

You will hold a relevant qualification or can demonstrate equivalent knowledge and/or have experience in designing and producing GIS map applications, using ArcGIS Server/ArcGIS Online,
