Come and join our dedicated team at Castle Wood, a vibrant, innovative special school for children aged 3 to 11. We have received two successive outstanding Ofsted judgements and have been praised for our use of Early Years practice and principles throughout our school. We are looking for a Senior Classroom Support Staff member who is dynamic and enthusiastic to work in our inspirational school. Our vision is ‘Children first…’ and we need an experienced higher level teaching assistant with the professional behaviours of initiative, commitment, dedication, a sense of fun and the ability to work as part of a team. Knowledge and experience of Early Years practice and principles would be preferred as this underpins all teaching and learning in our school from age 3 to 11.

In this role, you will work collaboratively and with the responsible teacher to implement teaching, learning and assessment as part of the Profound and Multiple Learning Difficultly (PMLD) unit. You will provide high quality care, postural management and supervision of children in line with the school’s policies and practices whilst working collaboratively with external agencies and health professionals to meet the needs of our complex medical and physical pupils. Additionally you will be responsible for supervising and managing the educational support staff within the PMLD unit and mentoring and managing the student placements that may be allocated to the PMLD unit.

We are looking for a person with:
• A recognised and relevant NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
• Previous experience operating at a Higher Level Teaching Assistant position
• GCSE Maths and English A-C or equivalent
• Strong communication skills
• The ability to use relevant technology/equipment
• The ability to work as part of a team. Experience of leading a team is desired.
• A commitment to the happiness, well-being, self-esteem and progress of everyone at the school
• Personal skills and qualities required to form positive relationships with children, parents and carers
• High aspirations for their pupils and themselves
• A good knowledge of the EYFS and SEND would be an advantage but a willingness to learn and embrace its practice and principles is essential
• Previous experience of working in a special school would be strongly advantageous

Work Pattern

35 hours per week, 39 weeks term time only which includes teacher training days.
Fixed term - until 31st August 2020.
