Permanent Vacancy - Equipment Officer
Emergency Response Team (ERT)

A temporary vacancy exists for the position of Equipment Officer.

Salary: Grade 5 (£21,589 - £23,836)

Hours: 37 hours per week (flexible working scheme in operation)

 

About the role:

The Equipment Officer will support the work of the Emergency Response Team. This work includes the provision of all operational equipment for the fire appliances located in Staffordshire. The role holder will help to identify appropriate equipment, work with suppliers and complete some small repairs themselves. They will also carry out research and development alongside the other members of the team.

Following a short induction period the Equipment Officer will be expected to work independently when required but will report directly to the Research & Development Manager.

Duties include:

• The supply and repair of operational equipment throughout the service.
• Assist the team and complete Research and Development work associated with appliances and equipment.
• Liaise with suppliers and other departments to identify suitable equipment.
• Ensure that operational equipment is repaired and maintained in line with manufacturer’s guidance.
• Maintain appropriate systems to track and record assets.
• Production of Operational Flashes/ Technical Documents/ Standard Operating Procedural cards.
• Carrying out fair and effective procurement processes with the support of the service procurement lead.
• Assist the team to implement National Operational Guidance documents and procedures.
• Provide resilience and support to Breathing Apparatus Maintenance.

Person Specification:

Essential Criteria:

Knowledge and Experience:
• Experience of working alone efficiently and using initiative in order to meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation

Skills, ability and personal qualities:
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and databases.
• Physically fit and prepared to work in enclosed spaces as work demands
• Prepared to undertake training for the role, and to develop self as required
• Full current driving licence

Desirable Criteria:

• LGV Driver qualification
• Previous experience of project work and operational equipment and appliances would be an advantage

Additional Information:

The post holder may be required to travel outside of the county in order to fulfil the role with occasional overnight stays.
