At Staffordshire County Council one of our key priorities within our strategic plan is to improve education and skills provision in our schools, colleges and universities so that more people gain the training and qualifications they need to succeed. To support the delivery of this priority we are currently undertaking a wide range of SEND transformation with education, health and social care partners. Working together with parents and carers, we are developing SEND provision to reflect the changing needs and trends so children have their needs met locally in mainstream, special and alternative provision. This transformation is included within the Written Statement of Action produced by the local area in response to the outcome of the Staffordshire local area SEND inspection.

We are keen to see further improvements in outcomes for our most vulnerable children and to ensure that our mainstream schools become more inclusive. Relationships with schools are improving and the development of the Education and Skills Strategy: A Partnership Framework for Staffordshire is being used as a catalyst for this.

We are currently seeking to appoint a Head of Vulnerable Learners to manage a broad service, which includes education inclusion, SEND assessment and planning, SEND commissioning, education psychology, education welfare, elective home education, children missing education, Gypsy Roma travellers, hearing and visual impairment, autism outreach, ASSIST and children in employment/entertainment.

This role will be required to actively lead and engage with a wide variety of stakeholders and partners in driving our ambitious inclusion agenda. The post holder will provide a point of contact for schools and other educational agencies.

Candidates will need a strong track record in a relevant school-related service, excellent partnership skills, a strategic approach, and a determination to improve the life chances for all our children and young people.  You will be fully supported by elected Members and colleagues in delivering best practice and great outcomes.

We are looking for great people to strengthen our leadership team, people with ambition that matches ours, join us at this exciting time, and be part of our improvement journey. The challenges are big, but the opportunities are great!
