Shared Lives Carer

  • Contract Type: Casual
  • Working Pattern: Casual
  • Payments: variable dependant on circumstances.

Do you have a caring nature, and are looking for a new challenge, with the opportunity to work from home?

Do you have room in your heart and home for someone to move in with you for a few hours, days, weeks, months or even years?

Could you offer support to an older child or a vulnerable Adult in your own home?

Shared lives promotes ordinary life for people who have assessed levels of need as part of the Care Act, 2015 it is a nationally recognised and successful care and support option for vulnerable adults.

Walsall have their own in house Shared lives scheme. It offers people with social care needs the opportunity to be supported in a shared lives carers home as part of a funded care and support package, for day time support, overnight stays, live in or temporary care.

We are also planning to increase this offer to support people on a short term basis to help with recovery after an illness or stay in hospital (step down).

Carers are approved, with support from the scheme, at an independent panel following a period of assessment by the scheme assistant coordinators.

Shared Lives Carers agree to share their home and family life with a vulnerable person in return for a fee, ongoing training, support and networking opportunities with other Shared lives carers and the Shared Lives team. Shared Lives Carers can support anyone from the age of 14 onwards with everyday living and activities. This could be someone with a range of disabilities, mental ill health deterioration, Autism or age related needs including dementia.

We are recruiting new carers from all backgrounds and family circumstances.

Relevant caring experience is valuable, but not essential. We also welcome applicants with enthusiasm and informal experience, as we provide full training and ongoing support.

Walsall Shared Lives Scheme values the commitment of our Shared Lives carers and will offer ongoing support through the assessment process and after approval.  We offer robust matching procedures, ongoing training, support and competitive payments.

The approval process will include a medical, DBS check, training and an assessment.
