Based in Coventry, we specialise in providing excellent education and support to learners with diverse and complex needs, including Autism. Our staff are committed to enabling learners to reach their potential and fulfil their ambitions.

We have an exciting opportunity for support assistants to join our team. The successful candidates will have a broad knowledge base of working with learners with challenging behaviours and experience of developing and supporting learners with special educational needs and disabilities.

In your role as a member of the ILS learning support staff team you will be responsible for supporting students in the Pathway in an educational environment under the guidance of the teaching staff. You will be responsible for monitoring and assessing and recording students’ progress through effective target setting and ensuring that students are able to access the curriculum effectively. You will also be responsible for delivering all aspects of personal care to individual students.

The College’s ‘Aspire’ group is a small discrete provision catering for learners with complex emotional and behavioural needs. You will ensure that the learners are effectively supported to reduce risk. You will support the Inclusion Manager to implement and deliver a range of effective programmes that strive to provide the best learning experience for all. You will be responsible for supporting a learner on a 1-1 basis, ensuring they are monitored and assisted in their learning. You will have the ability to quickly establish positive relationships with learners and staff and be flexible to meet the needs of a diverse group. A background in SEND and/or experience of working with challenging behaviour would be advantageous.

A level 2 qualification (GCSE Grade A – C) or equivalent in English and maths (or demonstration that you are operating at level 2 in both subjects) is essential.

For details of this and other career opportunities visit www.hereward.ac.uk/careers. You should submit completed application and diversity monitoring forms to vacancies@hereward.ac.uk.

The College reserves the right to close this vacancy when sufficient applications have been received.

This College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff to share this commitment. Successful candidates will be required to complete Enhanced DBS disclosure and provide referee details. Start dates will be conditional upon receipt of a satisfactory DBS check and references.

Whilst all applications are judged on merit alone, we would welcome applications from ethnic minority candidates, as this section of the community is currently under-represented in our workforce. The College Is committed to supporting employees who experience mental health difficulties and is proud to display the Mindful Employer logo.
