About the role:
Applications are invited from Police Staff for the post of Design Out Crime Officer (DOCO). The role is key in the force’s delivery of short, medium and long term crime reduction measures.
This is a challenging role and requires sound interpersonal skills, specifically the ability to communicate with a wide range of external agencies and partners. This is in addition to the daily contact and communication applicants can expect to have with officers and staff.
The post-holder will be expected to deliver short, medium and long-term Design Out Crime Solutions to identified priorities around threat, risk and harm. There will be a strong emphasis on working with external partners such as Local Authority Planning Departments, architects, developers and other agencies. Additionally, the Force Design Out Crime Team support Neighbourhood Policing Units with their partnership working, problem solving and crime prevention interventions. Team members are expected to develop, co-ordinate and maintain crime reduction and prevention initiatives in support of the force policing priorities.
Desirable Skills - Crime Reduction Designing Out Crime and maintained a CPD register. The suitable candidate would be required to complete the Police CPI Level 4 and Level 5 training courses and associated coursework.
Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a willingness to adopt a flexible approach to a role that can sometimes require deployment at short notice to different areas across the force. There will on occasions be requirement to work unsociable hours. This may include evenings & weekends as agreed with the DOCO Manager.
Candidates would be considered who have attended the Police CPI (previously College of Policing) Crime Prevention and Design Out Crime Courses. But full training will be provided.
