We are seeking talented Social Workers to join our Safeguarding and Assessment Team, who can make a positive contribution to the lives of children and families and who can ensure the voice of the child is at the centre of our intervention. Vulnerable children and families have a voice and their views will impact on how the service is shaped.

As a valued Senior Social Worker within Sandwell Children’s Trust, you will use your wealth of post-qualifying experience to make a real difference to the children of Sandwell. Championing best practice, you will safeguard and promote their welfare, ensuring all legislative requirements are met.

The Safeguarding and Assessment Teams respond to all new referrals with timely intervention and assessment. You will play a pivotal role in developing effective relationships with children and their families to identify their needs and agree plans with families to achieve change. You will have a good knowledge of minimum standards and be able to achieve our expectation for promoting change in family life. You will complete single assessments, undertake s47 investigations, use a range of direct work tools to evidence the child’s voice in your assessments and plans, work in partnership with agencies to identify support and inform plans, present children at Initial Child Protection Conference, chair Child in Need meetings, initiate pre-proceedings and Court work. We work a six-week s47 duty rota which promotes a good work-life balance.

  • Competitive salary £34,788 - £39,782 depending on experience.
  • Up to £6,500 relocation payment (subject to terms & conditions).
  • Sandwell Children’s Trust will make a commitment to your continuous learning and development and dedicate 15 days per year to your professional development and also offer learning placements of up to 6 months to expand your knowledge.

What you need to be successful in this role

You must be Social Work qualified with a good level of experience in working in a children and families setting.

Experience of Court work

A sound knowledge of legislation and guidance.

Ability to analyse information and make informed decisions.

Good knowledge of child development

A clear decision maker and good team worker.

A current Enhanced DBS and registration with the HCPC.

An Enhanced DBS is required for this position and registration with the HCPC.
