The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is a strategic authority working with partners to deliver a stronger West Midlands, with a focus on skills, innovation, transport, economic development and regeneration. Individual Councils and Local Enterprise Partnerships will still deliver services and retain their identity but on the big decisions we will have the resources to work together.

This is an exciting time for the West Midlands - the Commonwealth Games will be here in 2022, the arrival of HS2 will help make us a world class business location and a new £350m housing deal aims to deliver 215,000 new homes by 2031.

This new role will truly have an impact on the whole of our region.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Investment Accountant to provide excellent financial guidance to the Combined Authority. The objectives of the role will be to aid delivery of the WMCA Investment Programme and help to shape new agreements with central Government as the WMCA looks to the future to address the needs of its residents.

The successful applicant will be a commercially astute, qualified accountant with a strong analytical skill set. The ability to critique and influence investment proposals received by the Combined Authority is essential as well as an ability to hold the overall picture on the financial strategy, understanding how internal and external factors influence the affordability of the investment programmes.

You will be confident leading and developing initiatives which will bring additional funding into the Combined Authority. As such, an understanding about Local Authority financing would be a distinct advantage for any potential candidate, including business rates retention and related or innovative funding mechanisms.
