Alternative Provision Team – Key Worker - Ref: CH23319

Walsall Children’s Services

Salary: G6 £22,684 - £26,732

Fixed Term until 31 July 2020

This is an exciting opportunity to join Walsall Council’s Alternative Provision Team to promote and support positive participation in education and raise the achievement and aspirations of students attending alternative provision.

Walsall Council has statutory duties to provide alternative education for Walsall resident pupils of compulsory school who, because of exclusion, illness or other reasons, would not otherwise receive suitable education.

The purpose of the role is to identify appropriate provision for the student taking into consideration academic levels, post 16 aspirations, safeguarding and behavioural concerns and by matching the provider, qualifications and vocational areas to the aspirations of pupils.

The post holder will be responsible for a ‘case load’ of young people attending alternative provision, which will mean some travel around and outside of the borough depending upon the particular needs of the students involved. You will need to have regard to the SEND Code of Practice and identify SEND needs of pupils and promote parental engagement with education and support for positive behaviour.

We are looking for an experienced professional to provide a key point of contact for students and their families and develop good working relationships with key professionals to ensure positive progression for young people and provide the Local authority with a robust and comprehensive overview of progress, attainment and destinations for pupils and providers.

You will be required to comply with all relevant DfE policies and procedures.

This post is covered by the Government’s Code of Practice on the English Language Fluency Duty for public sector workers.

For an informal discussion please contact Kerry Wootton on 01922 652828 or Deborah Merrick on 07827 283 609.

Closing date for applications is Sunday 22nd September 2019
