£20,344 - £26,317 pro rata

Working 32.50 hours per week term time

 

Sensory Support is a specialist educational service for children and young people with hearing loss or vision impairment. Sensory Support is made up of two teams: the Hearing Support Team and the Vision Support Team. Our teams of specialist staff work with children and young people at all stages of their educational development; in homes, early years settings, mainstream schools, special schools and colleges. We work in partnership with the child or young person, the family and school/setting to remove barriers to learning and to raise attainment.

This is a city wide role to work collaboratively and in partnership with parents, schools, early year’s settings and other professionals to raise the attainment of children and young people with vision impairment, promote inclusion and increase access to learning.

Successful, recent experience of directly supporting the curricular access and development of school age pupil/s with significant vision impairment in mainstream schools and settings. The successful candidate will be committed to successful inclusion of children and young people with vision impairment in mainstream nurseries, schools and colleges. Good IT skills are essential. NNEB or BTEC National Diploma in Caring Services or NVQ level 3 (Child care and Education) or BTEC National Diploma in childhood studies. Braille skills are desirable. A willingness to learn Braille is essential. Qualification from the RNIB Facilitating Independence course is desirable.

We require a Teaching Assistant with recent experience in working with children and young people with vision impairment and their families. The successful candidate will have:* Ability to effectively support pupils with vision impairment and their parent/carers/school staff. *Ability to work effectively as part of a team.* Knowledge and skill to assess and work successfully with CYP with vision impairment.*Ability to take responsibility to mentor other TAs.*Ability to manage own workload and work to deadlines.*Good spoken and written communication skills.*Good IT Skills.
