An exciting opportunity has arisen within West Midlands Regional Cyber Crime Unit (WM RCCU) for an experienced police officer to perform the role of Investigation Officer.
WM RCCU is part of a national network responsible for tackling the threat posed by cyber crime. Based within West Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit (WM ROCU) they provide a regional investigative function around serious offences of cyber-dependent crime, working closely with partner agencies locally, regionally and nationally to enhance the wider understanding of the threat.
Comprising specialist staff and officers from the 4 regional forces, they provide a wide variety of skills to deliver a holistic response under the 4 P strategy (Pursue, Prevent, Prepare, Protect) and provide additional support across a range of demands.
WM RCCU also works closely with West Midlands Regional Dark Web Operations Team (WM RDOT).
Main responsibilities:
- Manage proactive and reactive investigations involving Cyber-Dependent and Dark Web criminality from intelligence case through to criminal justice outcome.
- Manage engagement with CPS both regionally and nationally.
- Seize, submit, assess and analyse Digital Forensic evidence both in support of active investigations and in order to develop future intelligence cases.
- Manage CPIA and disclosure requirements in relation to criminal investigations – including in relation to sensitive material.
- Attend and successfully complete courses relating to Cyber Crime Investigation and Digital Forensics.
- Take responsibility for own professional development in relation to Cyber Crime and Digital Forensics.
- Represent WM RCCU and WM RDOT at meetings locally, regionally and nationally as required.
Essential Skills and Competencies:
- PIP2 accredited or passed NIE exam and working towards accreditation.
- Able to demonstrate a proven investigative background, including the use of covert assets to progress investigations into serious and organised crime.
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of CPIA and disclosure requirements in relation to criminal investigations, including in relation to sensitive material.
- Able to demonstrate experience of working with Digital Forensic evidence in support of investigations.
- Able to demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain relationships with partner agencies.
- Able to demonstrate having taken responsibility for own professional development.
- An active interest in Cyber Crime and technology.
Desirable:
- Experience of working with financial evidence in support of investigations.
- Experience of working within Digital Forensics environment compliant with ISO 17025.
Additional Information:
- The post holder will be required to obtain Developed Vetting.
- Travel is likely to be required nationally and internationally.
- The role is based at a location in central Birmingham
