Museums Worcestershire
Museums Worcestershire is the joint museum service of Worcester City and Worcestershire County Council. It comprises three fantastic venues: Worcester City Museum and Art Gallery, The Commandery and The County Museum.

The collections and exhibitions at our sites are many and varied, covering centuries of the county's history right up to the present day. Thousands of objects, including the historic buildings themselves, are brought to life through innovative exhibitions and events throughout the year.

The role

Worcester City Council are looking for an experienced Commercial Officer to support and develop the operation of commercial, retail and catering enterprises across our city museums.

Like many other Museums across the country our shops and cafes are a key part of our visitor experience. However, other elements of the role offer a new venture for us and present great potential for development. We are looking for someone to make the most of these new opportunities and grow the existing business.

This part-time role is 20 hours a week, worked flexibly according to the requirements of current commercial activities.

Please note: This vacancy is a temporary contract until 31 March 2022.

 

Key requirements

You will have a proven track record of delivering commercial activities and be able to demonstrate how you have maximised such opportunities in your existing or previous roles. You will come with practical knowledge of retail margins and merchandising to provide technical support to our shop teams. You will be familiar with the needs of the weddings and corporate hire markets.

As well as maximising income from our existing operations we’d like you to bring in your own ideas for income generation, and help embed an ethos of income generation across the service.

You will co-ordinate and be hands-on with all commercial activity including weddings and hires.

Skills and Experience

  • You will bring your knowledge of commercial practices including corporate and wedding hire and retail practice to maximise sales and profitability.
  • You will be able to monitor performance data and know how to respond in a timely manner, recommending strategies for improvement.
  • You will have strong customer service skills and be able to motivate your team.
  • You will be enthusiastic, professional and ready for a new challenge.

Additional Information

This role is a temporary contract until 31 March 2022 and the salary is pro rata to the hours worked. 

Salary: £12,251 per annum

Hours: 20 per week

The role will include some weekend, evening and Bank Holiday working dependent on service needs.
